Cats, Chuck, Pearls

Hello!!

I created a Hat!  I took inspiration from other designs and made it my own.

With the political climate as it is, we need to own the future.  My friend Amy and I walked in the first Pink Hat March on January 21, 2017.  I busted out those pink hats like it was nobody's business.

We know what's going to happen in November and we need a hat to celebrate; I bring you 'Cats, Chucks, Pearls'

Cats Chuck Pearls
By OoAKS by Tinks
It’s a Strong Hat

Yarn:
Premier Basix - Rose & White
Cream Yarn remnants

Hooks
:
I-9 5.5 mm
G-7 4.0 mm
(mm sizing is more important than letter or number sizing)

Tools:
Darning Needle
Scissors
Locking Stitch Markers
Pearls – 12 inches, strung – I used Faux Pearl Garland from Amazon

Abbreviations
:
MR:  Magic Ring
Ch:  Chain
CO:  Cast On
SC:  Single Crochet
SLST:  Slip Stitch
ST(s):  Stitch(es)
FHDC:  Foundation Half Double Crochet
DC:  Double Crochet
HDC:  Half Double Crochet
FPDC:  Front Post Double Crochet
BPDC:  Back Post Double Crochet

Notes:
*Beginning chain 1/2 at beginning of the round does not count towards stitch count, It’s used to make height for HDC and DC.
*This is a waffle hat crochet in the round. You start at the top and work towards the bottom.
*Hat is size to fit adult medium head. You can modify the pattern larger or smaller by chaining multiple of 3s. You can use the Foundation HDC instead of chaining 72.
*Each row is joined with a slip stitch around the beginning HDC/DC.  It will ‘pop out’ that stitch, you will also use that ‘popped’ stitch for your first FPDC of the row.

Pattern
:

With Rose Yarn, 5.5mm hook

Ch 7 (multiple of 3) {FHDC 72 as an option instead}. Join to the beginning chain to form ring.

ROW 1:  Ch 1, in same st HDC in top loop of ch. HDC around. Join to beginning HDC around post st with slst. (72 HDC)

ROW 2:  Ch 2, in same st *FPDC, DC in next 2 sts*. Repeat * around. Join to beginning FPDC around post st with slst (24 FPDC, 48 DC)

ROW 3:  Ch 2, in same st *FPDC, BPDC in next 2 sts*. Repeat * around. Join to beginning FPDC around post st with slst (24 FPDC, 48 BPDC)

Repeat Rows 2 & 3 until the hat measures at least 6.5 inches (16.5cm) ending on Row 3.

Repeat Row 3 two more times.

Weave in ends.

Top of Hat & Ears
:

Turn Hat inside out, with yarn 2 times longer than hat is wide, whip stitch the top seam closed.  Do not cut yarn

Use remaining yarn to stitch ears. Lay hat flat, start at the top,  3 squares from the edge, using a basting stitch, stitch diagonally down across 3 squares, then baste back up to the beginning.  Weave in end.

Repeat on other ear.

Star Patch:

Circle Patch

White yarn, 4mm hook

Round 1:  in mr, ch 1, 6 sc (6 sc) Place marker in 1st st of round.

Round 2:  2 sc in each st (12 sc)

Round 3:  *1 sc in first st, 2 sc in next st* repeat around (18 sc)

Round 4:  *1 sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st* repeat around. (24 sc)

Weave in ends, leave tails long. Patch is about 2 inches round.

Star Applique
:

Found on YouTube by Meba J.
Star Applique

Rose yarn, 5.5mm hook

Point 1:  In mr ch 1, (ch 2 more. Slst into 2nd ch from hook. sc 1 into mr)

Point 2:  ch 2. Slst into 2nd ch from hook. Ch 1 into mr

Repeat Point 2 for Points 3, 4, & 5

Cut yarn, weave end into first star point. Pull tail of mr to tighten ring. Leave tails long to attach star to circle patch.

Place star on round patch, pull long tails through the patch.  Using tails, secure point ends by stitching them down. Tie off star tails. As you won’t see the back of the patch, you don’t have to make it pretty.

Using another piece of Rose yarn, baste around the edge of the circle patch. Tie off on the back.

Using long tails from the round patch, attach patch to hat, weave in ends.

Pearls
:

If you are using Pearl Garland, cut off about 12 inches of pearls. Using small bits of cream yarn attach pearls to hat by looping yarn between last 2 pearls and tying off. Pearls will appear to pop out, but you won’t see them when wearing the hat.

Wear and Enjoy!!
